CT (Cat Scan) quick reference card / Cheat sheet
Computed Tomography

This is a little cheat sheet. Please see image above

There been many times when I train new techs that they keep asking "whats the flow rate for CTA, where should I put the smart prep?.. What's the timing for CT venous phase? for this and for that?". At that time I really hope they have something like this. Its a quick reference card with the flow rate, contrast dosage and timing for the most common scans.

For example; If the doctor ordered CTA chest to r/o PE. Look at the card, you should set the flow rate to 4ml/sec. Load the injector syringe with 100ml contrast material. And when you scan, to set the ROI or Smart prep in the Pulmonary Artery.

Another example; If the doctor ordered CT Abd & Pelvis w/ IV contrast. Look at the card, you should set the flow rate to 2ml/sec. Load the injector syringe with 100ml contrast material. And when you scan, the delay should be set around 70 sec. Most hospital have the timing built into their exam already per their protocol. So just follow your hospital timing set in the exam. But 70 seconds is a good range for timing. One of my hospital has it at 70 seconds, my other place set it at 80 seconds. So its all depends on your hospital. This is not meant to replace your hospital policy. Its merely just give u an approx idea or a range for the particular list of exams. So ALWAYS follow your hospital protocol for dosage, timing and flow rate.

Please note, it does not cover everything. It does not reflect your hospital protocol. It just a common timing and dosage that gives u info in a pinch. Or a great card to have when you are learning  CT as a new tech. This card will help you and give you a basic understand to approximately how much to set your flow rate at, approx. where to put the smart prep/ROI, timing and lab work range. Of course, you should always follow your hospital protocol. If for some reason the hospital protocol is not available, this card can at least give u some info to get the test done.

Many facilities use their techs for many modalities, I know VA hospitals utilized their techs for xray, CT and MRI. If you need other cards such as DR/CR technique cards or positioning cards, we sell them in our shop as well. Add them to your carts and check out together.
